You must believe in Yourself."
The Story
Early life:
He grew up in the minig housing estate on south district of Knurow- Szczydlowice. He has two brothers- Darek and Piotr.Career history:
First game for Concordia Knourow
He made his debut when he was 18. They went down 2-0 in a game after 35 minutes. Anyway, the coach told him he had the chance to play for a third division club, and so he came on as a substitute. He played for 55 minutes that day. They still lost 2-0, but he was happy that he conceded no goals. The other goalkeeper wanted his place back, but they were able to work very well together. They had no problems.
First game for Sokol Tychy
He moved there after four years with Concordia. It was a club in the top division, but he ended up playing only 15 games before Feyenoord signed him. His debut for Sokol Tychy was special because it was against Legia Warsaw, one of Poland's top clubs. For a young goalkeeper like he it was a really big thing. Their coach had told him that He just had to be himself. The night before the game he found he couldn't eat, he couldn't drink and he couldn't sleep. His room-mate, who was also going to make his debut, slept very well, but it was a terrible night for him. He was scared to ask the doctor for anything. They lost 2-0 against Legia, but he played well. People said it was as if he had been playing for a long time in that league when, in fact, it was only his first match.
First game for Feyenoord
He had to wait one year for it, after Ed de Goey moved to Chelsea. The coach said he had two good goalkeepers at the club, Zsolt Petry, a Hungarian, and He, and that They would each be given a fair chance. In pre-season They both played OK, but He started the season. His first league game was against MVV, which They won 3-0. But His actual debut for Feyenoord was before that, against FC Jazz of Finland in a Champions League qualifier. They won 6-2, but He made a mistake on their first goal. He went for a cross when he was challenged by one of their defenders and he dropped the ball and they scored. Everyone was a bit concerned about the new goalkeeper, but at least he got noticed. If he hadn't made that mistake no-one would probably have seen his in the game! he went on to play around 140 consecutive matches for Feyenoord. He was very proud of that.
First game for Poland
That was as a second half substitute against Spain in 1999. But his full debut, and the game he consider to be his first for Poland, was against big France in the Stade de France the following year. It was a fantastic match to play in, especially as France were World Champions. The score was 0-0 two minutes from time, but then Zidane scored the only goal. He hit a free-kick into the wall and he struck the rebound through the wall and into the net. This was a new Polish team because their coach had given debuts to a lot of players. They got a lot of confidence from this result. Since then He became first choice goalkeeper for Poland.
Worst game
It was when he was with Feyenoord against Ajax in 1999. Matches between these clubs are always massive, but in their previous game they had got a 2-2 draw against NAC Breda, which was enough to make their champions. There was a big celebration in Rotterdam after that match because it had been a few years since Feyenoord had won the title. As a result, they didn't feel very well when they played away to Ajax and they lost 6-0! He couldn't do anything about the goals, but it was a horrible feeling for theirs players and for their supporters. One to forget.
Best game
He had some good moments and some good games when he played for Feyenoord. It's hard to say which has been my best, but it could possibly be the one against Juventus in the 1997/98 season. It was one of his first matches in the Champions League, they won 2-0 at home and he made some good saves. Maybe he proved to people that night that he was a good goalkeeper. It was a fantastic moment generally because it's not every week you beat a big team like Juventus. Maybe he has had better moments in his career, but he will never forget the feeling that night. His best moment for Poland was when they qualified for the World Cup by beating Norway 3-0 at home. Everyone, right from his position through to the strikers, played really well. It had been 16 years since Poland last qualified for the World Cup - and two days earlier he had signed his contract with Liverpool. Both events are memorable. How I became a fan
After his play on the match AC Milan vs FC Liverpool. FC Liverpool won the Champions League due to Jerzy Dudek. After that I bought and read his book called: "UWIERZYC W SIEBIE do przerwy 0:3" and I think he is the great man:)Why I like him / her:
Because Jerzy Dudek is a very interesting person. He is great goalkeeper and come from Poland. He work very hard to achieve what he has. Jerzy Dudek was the hero for Liverpool in the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan when he saved his team from defeat:)
